Disney Theme Parks to Discontinue Program Which Allows the Disabled to Skip Lines

The Walt Disney Company has announced plans to stop the "Guest Assistance Card" program which allows disabled guests to receive unlimited front-of-the-line access to rides at the theme parks.

The program, which provides disabled visitors with an access card to skip lines, is scheduled to  end on October 9 and be replaced with a new system similar to  "Fast Pass," where guests are given return times for rides.

"We have an unwavering commitment to making our parks accessible to all guests," said Disney spokesperson Kathleen Prihoda. "Given the increasing volume of requests we receive for special access to our attractions, we are changing our process to create a more consistent experience for all our guests while providing accommodations for guests with disabilities."

This policy change comes on the heels of a story in the New York Post reporting that some deep-pocketed New York City moms had hired a motorized scooter-bound guide to pose as a family member so they and their kids could skip lines to the rides.

The new policy is expected to stop this type of abuse from occurring in the future.
